Blog converted to RollerWeblogger

I haven't been doing much with my blog lately, in part because I didn't want to use MovableType anymore (I prefer to use free software, and the only reason I ended up with MovableType in the first place was that it was the first software I tried that work relatively easily out of the "box"). I was still running on MovableType version 2.63, and while the new 3.14 version seems to have some features I'm interested in (posting articles in the future, for example), (a) it is still not free software; and (b) the new features appear to be based on PHP.

I've decided to use a Java based blogging system. I looked at Blojsom and RollerWeblogger, and settled on the latter.

I will miss the Subscription / Notification feature of MovableType, and I'm not sure yet what I will do now that I don't have that. I used to send out notices to my subscribers to Gregor's Word of the Week (WOW) and Gregor's World each time I added an entry, and people have come to expect the WOW notices (although I haven't put out very many entries and thus notices during 2004).

I found a program called mt2roller.pl, based on an earlier program called mt2blojsom.pl, and reworked it to suit my needs. I have modified the script to suit my needs (direct DBI to the database rather than generating a SQL script, for example).
